If you’ve ever sought out the expertise of a dietitian, chances are you’re looking for more than just someone to tell you to “eat more vegetables” or write you a generic meal plan (hello, chatGPT). Whatever you do, if you’re looking for any kind of nutrition advice, make sure you get your information from a Registered Dietitian, not a nutritionist, “nutrition coach,” or “nutrition counselor.”
Did you know there’s a big difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?
Technically, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist! To be a registered dietitian, you must have a Bachelors degree in nutrition (Masters required as of 2024), complete a dietetic internship, pass a national registration exam, and be licensed in your state to practice. To be a nutritionist, you can go online and take a 2 week course.

Registered dietitians are qualified health professionals that are trained to assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual level.
At Nutrition Awareness, our Orlando-based dietitians are licensed experts who blend science-based nutrition with practical, real-life solutions tailored to your lifestyle, culture, and health needs. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, manage a medical condition like PCOS or high blood pressure, or simply eat healthier to feel better, we’ve got your back.
You know how an outfit can look amazing on your best friend but just not fit you quite right? That’s kind of how nutrition goes too… Just because someone has gotten results for themselves does not mean that they understand the physiology and complexities of the body and how it interacts with food, and how those complexities can differ among individuals.

How it Works
First, you’ll start with an initial consultation. We’ll start by getting to know you, understanding your current routines, frustrations, symptoms, and what questions/topics you want to make sure we get covered in that first visit. We want to know what a typical day is like for you, any specific cravings you have often, sleep duration and quality, stress levels, past history with nutrition and dieting, medications and supplements, as well as your biggest downfalls when it comes to health and wellness. First, we want a clear picture of where you are now, then we will talk about your ultimate goals and what you want to accomplish. Our job is to help you bridge the gap between those two places!
What we won’t do is just hand you a meal plan and say “eat this.” We’re also not going to sell you any products, pills, appetite suppressants, or supplements. Instead, we’ll play detective to figure out the best nutrition for your body, teach you the “why” behind our recommendations, and get you living your best life!
Why Work with a Local Orlando Registered Dietitian?
We live and work here in Orlando too! We know what specific products and brands are available at what grocery stores. We can recommend healthy restaurants local to you and where to score the best produce. Need ideas for what to order at popular chains around Orlando like Chipotle and Starbucks? Done!
We are connected within the Orlando community. We have built relationships with the area’s best mental health therapists, concierge physicians, physical therapists, personal trainers, gyms, and fitness studios. At Nutrition Awareness, we will help you build a framework for your life that works for all areas of your health and wellness with your lifestyle, whether you’re a downtown professional, a busy parent in Winter Park, or a distance runner training for your next Disney race.
We also think there’s something to actually seeing a dietitian in person. Of course, we offer virtual consultations, but there’s nothing like in-person accountability.

The Nutrition Awareness Difference
Sure, you can use google and try to figure it out on your own, but if you’re reading this you’ve probably already tried that route. Why not get the help of a professional? We’ve helped our clients lose weight, gain muscle, improve performance, repair their relationship with food, and find their self-confidence without pills, shots, or injections.
At Nutrition Awareness, we do things way differently than you may have experienced at a medical weight loss facility, a medspa, or a weight loss clinic.
Our goal is for our clients to never have to pay for another diet, weight loss scheme, or meal plan again. Have a complex history with food? So do we.
